Information for Parents
Kappa Sigma Fraternity was founded in the United States on December 10, 1869 at the University of Virginia and is the largest fraternity with over 260,000 initiates, and ranks #1 in total undergraduate men joining our organization each year.
Code of Conduct: The following is an excerpt from our Code which we expect all members, young and old, to follow.
Each member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity is responsible for seeing that he:
- Acts as a gentleman, setting an example of moral behavior;
- Conducts himself as a good student, good neighbor, and good citizen;
- Obeys the laws, rules and regulations of his country, state or province, city and county, and college or university;
- Does not engage in, permit or tolerate hazing, or the unlawful use of alcohol or possession of controlled substances;
Academically: Kappa Sigma takes a stern attitude toward academics and knows the sole purpose of attending college is higher education. The Omicron-Rho chapter holds study halls and provides a wide range of academic resources for every member of Kappa Sigma. Furthermore, your son had to meet our academic requirements before he could be pledged to Kappa Sigma Fraternity stressing the importance of academics from day one.
Socially: Our calendar speaks for itself semester after semester. We always participate in intramural sports, we do team building exercises with other Greek organizations, and we all take leadership roles on campus in which our brothers fully support.
Leadership: The brothers of Omicron-Rho have a very prominent role on campus; with brothers holding positions at UM-Flint such as the presidencies of Student Government, Greek Council, and Inter Fraternity Council just to name a few.
Housing: Although our house is relatively new on campus, it has a very stable functioning set of rules and guidelines which ensure that your son is safe every time he enters our home. Our national fraternity insurance covers our house and all the brothers of the fraternity at any fraternity event.
Service: Since our chapter's founding in 2007, we have completed over 10,500 hours of community service earning the brotherhood a lot of respect on campus and in the community.
Kappa Sigma has been choosing its brothers for many years based upon words from our founding brothers. We believe that any prospective member, including your son, has the potential to hold true the following words that influence the actions of all our members:
"The Star and Crescent shall not be worn by every man, but only by him who is worthy to wear it. He must be a gentleman ? a man of honor and courage ? a man of zeal, yet humble ? an intelligent man ? a man of truth ? one who tempers action with wisdom and, above all else, one who walks in the light of God."
We hope you give your son the ability to join our chapter, and become a part of a national brotherhood which is over 260,000 brothers strong.
